  • Le Monde French bisto, serving tripes and andouillette. One block down from my apartment.
  • My first New York subway rat! Well, small rat. Okay first mouse.
  • Harlem.

Today  was a great day. Let myself sleep in until noon to get over jet lag and then enjoyed the apartment all to myself (breakfast in kitchen with an amazing view of Manhattan). Then off to get a cellphone….accidentally ended up in Harlem (oops!) but eventually found the Sprint store. They were super nice and I got my new Samsung phone (chosen pretty much because it is pink). Then off to NYU where I explored the campus and met up with my graduate buddy. She was a great sport and showed me everything.  Best place to get coffee, where to eat for under $4, the gym, Korean and Japanese grocery stores. I think I must have walked about four hours in total. Finally back home (grabbed some falafel on the go mmmnn) and more exploring on the agenda for tomorrow!

Bags are packed, goodbyes said…and stuck in Lyon. Feels super anti-climactic. Can’t wait to leave but am super scared at the same time. SUPER BLARGH.

Just bought my plane ticket to NYC…gulp. Leaving August 28th.

horrible harrumph worthy day. Kids on strike! They graffitied the university and shut down most of Lyon’s transport system…..so over an hour walk to work in not-so-sensible heels and freezing wind. Am now de-stressing via my cuisine. On the menu: Turkey legs in garlic butter sauce with roasted cherry tomatoes and potatoes. Just waiting till the Frenchman gets home (in the meanwhile France has run out of gas and there is a mob run on remaining petrol…yikes)

good news!  My physical therapist now says maybe, just maybe, I can start running again.  Six months ago, his response was a categorical no, you can never run again, not if you want to maintain your vertebral column in one piece.  Just a few conditions though - I can only run a maximum of 20 minutes, and I have to stay really light on my feet.  His exact words: Make like Legolas, Lara.  Legolas.  Leave no traces in the snow.

Duly noted.
